The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is not going to reject the idea of funding the rehabilitation of 7 units of the Azerbaijan’s Hydro Electrical Power

Station (HYPS) in Mingechavir. One should not close the entire station in the process of reconstruction, which generates 60% of the electrical power for the country, the EBRD official Reymond Konway told Trend.

"In this respect we suggest to carry out the reconstruction in several phases, within which per 2-3 units will be rehabilitated. Transition to the new phase will take place immediately after accomplishment of works at the previous stage. The works will cover some 3 years and I do not think their stage-by-stage implementation will cause delay of the reconstruction”, Konway said.

For rehabilitation of 7 from 8 operating plants of HYPS EBRD is ready to allocate $110 million in several tranches. The project is estimated in $135 million, and after its implementation the station’s capacity will grow from 2100 MWT to 2500 Mwt.
