On 12 December, a leading economist of the World Bank (WB) for South Caucasus, Christian Peterson, and the WB leading economist on Azerbaijan, Christos Kostopolus, set up meetings at the Government of Azerbaijan with a new partnership strategy between Azerbaijan and the WB for the period 2007-2009.

The Baku office of the WB informed Trend that the meetings are to be held at different Ministries and Departments in connection with the presentation of a new strategy adopted at the WB Board of Directors on 6 December.

Peterson will become familiar with the general economic situation in the country.

The new partnership strategy covers a four-year period from 2007 to 2010 and envisages a lending program of US$1.26 billion, both in IDA and IBRD financing, as well as an active IFC program. Knowledge-sharing, analytical and advisory activities and the development of partnerships will reinforce these investments.
