Azerbaijan, Baku, May 14 / corr Trend S.Aliyev /
Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko signed a decree on urgent measures to realize the Brussels declaration and on implementation of the Euro-Asian transport corridor on the base of the Odessa-Brody oil pipeline.
Transportation via the Odessa-Brody pipeline can become one of the directions diversifying delivery of oil produced in the Caspian region, being attractive to all oil and gas producing countries of the region. Azerbaijan has voiced its readiness to offer its oil to technical work in this pipeline - this is the volume of approximately 370,000 tons.
Azerbaijan can take interest in transporting its oil via the Odessa-Brody due its desire to refine crude at the Ukrainian oil refinery plant and further retail sale of the oil products. Presently, the issue is under development.
Continued pipeline via the Odessa-Brody-Plock-Gdansk pipeline will enable to bring oil to the Baltic Sea.
Oil transporting capacities of Azerbaijan can be involved to implement the route. Oil can be delivered from Baku through the Baku-Supsa pipeline or by rail to Georgian Black ports and onwards to Odessa by tankers. It is also possible to construct a new pipeline from Azerbaijan to Georgia to deliver oil to the Black Sea ports of the country.
Azerbaijan is main supplier in this route (the Odessa-Brody-Plock-Gdansk). Azerbaijan can supply not only its own resources, but also oil from Central Asia, for example, from Kazakhstan.
Sarmatia has already prepared the feasibility study. The Odessa-Brody oil project was planned to diversify oil supplies to Ukrainian refineries and transit facilities for the development of the country. Construction of the Odessa-Brody oil pipeline was completed in May 2002. The pipeline has a length of 674 km, diameter - 1,020 millimeters. The pipeline and the terminal's capacity are 9-14 million tons per year.
The Sarmatia international oil pipeline company was founded in 2004. Now company's participants are SOCAR (the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic), Georgian Oil and Gas Corporation, Lithuanian company Klaipedos oil ", Polish oil company PERN Pshiyazn and Ukrtransnafta JSC.
