Iran has begun construction of a pipeline to transport gas to Europe via Turkey, head of economic department of the Iranian embassy in Turkey, Ahmad Noorani said, RBC reported with reference to Reuters. He said Pars gas pipeline will pass through Turkey to Greece, Italy and other European countries. "Another route may pass through Iraq and Syria, then in seabed of the Mediterranean Sea in Greece and Italy," Noorani said. He added that Iran would supply gas for the project Nabucco, but no agreements have been signed.
The proved natural gas reserves represent over Iran's 27.8 trillion cubic meters (second place in the world after Russia). In 2007, natural gas production in Iran amounted to 111.9 billion cubic meters, consumption - 111.8 billion cubic meters.
