Iran drills first 954-meter horizontal oil well

Iran has drilled a 954-meter horizontal well on the Azadegan oil field for the first time, the Iranian Neft News Web site reported.

"During the drilling activities on Well No.19 on the Azadegan field, the company performed drilling at a 90-degree angle from 2,878 to 3,832 meters," National Iranian Drilling Company Director Mehran Alipour said. "The company did not make any mistakes during the drilling."

The National Iranian Drilling Company is engaged in drilling and developing 37 wells on the Azadegan oil field. The field located 83 kilometers southwest of Akhvaz was discovered in 2000 and has reserves of 42 billion barrels of oil.

The Azadegan oil field covers an area of 900 square meters.
