President of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdullayev met yesterday with a delegation led by Itochu Corporation Energy, Metals and Minerals Department President Yoichi Kobayashi, SOCAR reported.
Kobayashi is also the co-chair of a Japanese-Azerbaijani economic commission.
At the meeting, he stressed that Itochu has confidence in the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli oil and gas project among other international projects implemented by the corporation. He also expressed the company's interest in expanding its participation in these projects.
According to Kobayashi, the corporation is also interested in trading oil and oil products with SOCAR on an international scale, as well as cooperating in petrochemicals.
Abdullayev noted that SOCAR has received the Turkish government's permission to build a new oil refinery with a design capacity of 10 million tons per year, which has created vast new perspectives for cooperation in this sphere.
Abdullayev underscored that there are many opportunities in this and other projects in terms of deepening cooperation between the two companies. He said SOCAR will carefully consider Itochu's proposals and the proposals of other interested companies.
