Georgia’s electricity exports reach historic maximum in 2010

Electricity exports reached a historic maximum in Georgia in 2010.

As the country's electricity operator told Trend last year, Georgia exported 1.524 billion kilowatt hours of electricity, which is two times more than in 2009 (749.43 billion kilowatt/hours). In 2008, exports totaled 679.59 billion kilowatt/hours, and in 2007 they reached 625.47 billion kilowatt/hours.

In 2010, Georgia exported electricity to four neighboring countries. Some 1.117 billion kilowatt/hours were exported to Russia, 14.344 billion kilowatt/hours to Azerbaijan, 303.366 million kilowatt/hours to Turkey, and 89.447 million kilowatt/hours to Armenia.

Last year, Georgia imported 211.94 million kilowatt/hours from Russia, and 10.138 billion kilowatt/hours from Azerbaijan.

Nine electricity exporting and 6 electricity importing companies are registered.
