By late 2011, a plant, which is currently under construction in Sumgayit, will begin producing solar panels, Industry and Energy Ministry's Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources Agency head Akim Badalov said.

Along with the solar panels, the plant will produce energy-efficient LED-lamps.
"If the plant does not have time by late 2011 to begin production of lamps, then it will start it in the first quarter of next year," Badalov said.

He said the products produced at the plant are also aimed at covering part of the domestic market. However, the main purpose is exports. Badalov said the plant has already received a great number of orders, particularly in Europe.

The plant was founded using Azerbaijani private capital. Azguntex is engaged in construction with the support of the Alternative and Renewable Energy Sources.

The equipment installed at the plant have been produced in Germany, the prices correspond the cost of products offered by the Chinese producers.
"German technology and management creates opportunities to be competitive in quality on the European market, and pricing corresponds Asian countries' pricing," Badalov said.
