Iran's oil ministry seeks to improve oil and gas exploration in the Caspian Sea, Fars News Agency reported quoting Oil Ministry Caretaker Mohammad Aliabadi as saying.

"Exploration of hydrocarbon sources in the Caspian Sea or any other part of Iran is on Oil Ministry's agenda," he said.

He expressed hope that achievement of the drilling technology in the Caspian Sea in the future will enable the ministry to use it in other parts of the country as well.

Iran's oil industry in the Caspian Sea differs from other oil rich regions and due to the depth of the sea the drilling project requires special experts and technologies, he noted.

Iran has OPEC's second-highest oil output, and ranks second in the world in terms of natural gas reserves after Russia.
