The Georgian Border Police detained a vessel flying under the Marshall Islands flag in the Kulevi port, the department reported on Friday.

The Georgian Border Police detained a vessel flying under the Marshall Islands flag in the Kulevi port, the department reported on Friday.

The Sloman Themis tanker was arrested at the first berth of the Kulevi port because of a sea pollution.

A criminal case was filed against the captain, Croatian citizen Romano Mizholovich, in accordance with the Administrative Code of Georgia.

The captain was fined at 65,000 lari (1.64 lari is $1). A fine of 9,680 lari was also imposed for environmental damage.

The tanker will be granted the right to navigate freely after the fines are paid.
