Today, Turkmenistan supplies electricity to Iran, Afghanistan and Turkey, and the electricity expert volumes are growing steadily, Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammadov said in his address to the Turkmen energy sector employees on the occasion of their professional holiday marked on Sept. 10.
"The Turkmen energy policy is focused on diversification of the energy supply ," the address reads.
He said the foreign countries liven up negotiations with Turkmenistan on cooperation in the electricity sector due to the continued growth in the world energy demand.
"Turkmenistan owns huge energy reserves, whose rational and careful use meet the people's interest, serves to raise the level of people's living standard and is one of our major goals," the address reads.
The current transportation options allow the country to sell electricity to Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey and Central Asia. The project development is underway regarding the supply to Pakistan.
Turkmenistan is to increase the electricity production level to 35.5 billion kilowatt-hours by 2030 in accordance with the Turkmen State Energy Sector Strategy.
