Georgia, Tbilisi, Jan. 4 / Trend N. Kirtskhalia /

New fuel standards began operating in Georgia from January 1. According to the Union of importers of petroleum products, the new rules will determine shares of lead, benzene, aromatic hydrocarbons and sulfur in the fuel in 2012-2014.

This decision makes Georgia closer to EU standards.

As chairman of the Union Vano Mtvralashvili said, importers operating on the Georgian market are ready to transition to new standards.
