Uzbekistan decreases electricity and coal production in January-June

In January-June 2012, Uzbekistan reduced production of electricity by 1.7 percent to 26.101 billion kWh compared to the same period of 2011, Uzbek State Statistics Committee said.

Heat supply to customers amounted to 10.026 million Gcal, or 0.5 percent more than in the first half of 2011. Coal production in the country during the reporting period decreased by 18.4 percent to 1.336 million tons.

It was reported that in 2011 electricity generation in the country increased by 1.3 percent - up to 52.416 billion kilowatt-hours, heat supply - by 0.9 percent up to 18.515 million Gcal, coal production - by 5.9 percent up to 3.844 million tons compared to 2010.

More than 98 percent of the electricity generated in Uzbekistan account for power plants of Uzbekenergo state joint-stock company.

The main producer of coal in the country with a share of 90 percent is JSC Uzbekugol, which is included in Uzbekenergo.
