The production, transportation and transit of electric power, oil products, nonferrous metallurgy, transport telecommunications and textiles were referred to as the most important priorities of Turkmen-Tajik cooperation after the summit talks in Ashgabat. This was stated in a joint statement signed within Tajik President Emomali Rahmon's official visit on August 22-24 at the invitation of his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The Republic of Tajikistan once again expressed support for Turkmenistan's initiative on the development of an international legal document on the transit of energy resources taking into account the proposals of interested countries and international organisations within the UN.

According to the document, the need for closer ties in the field of agriculture and industrial processing of its products was stressed.

While discussing the issues of international politics, the presidents of the two countries confirmed their similar positions on the most important issues of the world politics.

The Presidents admitted the need for further development of cooperation in the fight against trans-border threats such as terrorism, religious extremism, organised crime and drug trafficking bilaterally and within the regional and international organisations.

The presidents discussed urgent regional issues and stressed that Afghanistan's rapid stabilisation and restoration is crucial to ensure security and stability in the region.

President Rahmon invited his Turkmen counterpart to visit the Republic of Tajikistan at a convenient time which was accepted. The schedule of the visit will be agreed through diplomatic channels.
