The growth rate of Turkmenistan's power generation hit 110.5 percent for 10 months of 2014 (compared to the same period of last year), the Turkmen Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said Nov. 13.
Earlier it was reported that Turkmenistan annually exports over 2.8 billion kilowatt hours of electricity to neighboring countries. That is 13-15 percent of the total electricity generated in the country.
Currently, Turkmenistan works to increase the electricity export to Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey. The possibility of transmitting electric power to Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Pakistan and the Caucasian countries is underway.
Plans are to build 14 gas turbine thermal power stations in various regions of the country as part of the electric power industry development concept in Turkmenistan in 2013-2020.
Turkmenistan plans to bring power generation capacity to 27.4 billion kilowatt hours by 2020, and to 35.5 billion kilowatt hours - by 2030.
