Kazakhstan’s refineries processed 11.37 million tons of oil in January-October 2016, KazMunaiGas Refining and Marketing reported Nov. 4.
The processing target was exceeded by 0.22 percent in the period.
Kazakhstan produced 10.51 million tons of oil products in the period, including 2.34 million tons of gasoline, 3.42 million tons of diesel fuel and 219,441 tons of aviation kerosene.
In 2016 oil processing in Kazakhstan hit 16.29 million tons.
Kazakhstan has three huge refineries – in the cities of Atyrau, Shymkent and Pavlodar. The Pavlodar refinery is wholly owned by KazMunaiGas Refining and Marketing. The company also holds a 99.53-percent stake in the Atyrau refinery, a 49.7-percent stake in the Shymkent refinery and a 50-percent stake in the Caspi Bitum, a company engaged in oil processing.
Currently, the three refineries of Kazakhstan are being modernized, which will significantly improve the quality and the environment friendliness of products, increase capacities and ensure the output of high-octane gasoline meeting the K5 standard, an analogue of Euro 5 standard in the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union.
The modernization of the refineries is planned to be completed in 2018.
