By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Azerbaijan is an important high growth market for the US Honeywell company, Frans van Deursen, President of Honeywell for Turkey and Central Asia, told Trend.

“Azerbaijan, as well as Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, are important high growth markets for Honeywell. We opened our first office in Kazakhstan in 2001, and our Caspian region office in Baku in 2005, but have been supplying customers in Azerbaijan for more than four decades. While we are one of the world’s largest industrial technology companies, we can sell and operate locally in these countries, and we understand what customers need to remain competitive and drive growth,” he said.

This is a very attractive proposition for the Central Asia region, where customers need world-class solutions from a supplier they can engage at a local level, noted , Frans van Deursen.

Further, Honeywell president talked about the company’s participation in the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) project, which envisages transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe.

“This is a great project for Honeywell. We are proud to be deploying our SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) package as part of the TAP Project, which will help ensure safe, secure pipeline operations,” he said.

Frans van Deursen noted that the scope of work includes system detail engineering, graphic interface development, block valve station (BVS) controls, security, and telecommunications systems.

“The SCADA and security system will provide integrated, centralized and seamless monitoring and control along the entire 878-kilometer gas transportation system,” he added.

In December 2016, Trans Adriatic Pipeline AG (TAP) selected Honeywell SRL of Italy for the engineering, procurement and installation of its SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) telecommunications and security systems.

TAP worth 4.5 billion euros is a part of the Southern Gas Corridor, which is one of the priority energy projects for the European Union. The project envisages transportation of gas from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz Stage 2 to the EU countries.

The pipeline will connect to the Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) on the Turkish-Greek border, run through Greece, Albania and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in Italy’s south.

TAP will be 878 kilometers in length (Greece 550 kilometers, Albania 215 kilometers, Adriatic Sea 105 kilometers, and Italy 8 kilometers).

TAP’s shareholding is comprised of BP (20 percent), SOCAR (20 percent), Snam S.p.A. (20 percent), Fluxys (19 percent), Enagás (16 percent) and Axpo (5 percent).
