The total volume of petroleum products sold by the Star refinery of the Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR in the domestic market of Turkey totaled 43,761 tons in May 2019, Trend informs referring to a report posted on the website of Turkey’s Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).
During the reporting period, the share of Star refinery products in the Turkish market was 1.75 percent, according to EPDK.
The EPDK report shows that in May 2019, the Star refinery exported a total of 130,090 tons of petroleum products, including 89,983 tons of diesel fuel and 40,107 tons of jet fuel.
In May, 2019, crude oil imports to Star Refinery amounted to 630,648 tons, the report says.
The opening ceremony of the Star oil refinery took place on October 19, 2018 in Izmir, Turkey.
The total refining capacity of the refinery will be 10 million tons, and Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR is the main supplier of crude for the refinery. The refinery will significantly reduce the dependence of Turkey on imports of petrochemical products.
The refinery worth $6.3 billion, built by SOCAR in the Aliaga District of Izmir, will produce 1.6 million tons of naphtha, 1.6 million tons of aviation fuel, 4.8 million tons of low-sulfur diesel, 700,000 tons of petroleum coke, 420,000 tons of mixed xylene and 160,000 tons of sulfur.
