By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

Azerikimya Production Union (PU) is expected to be commissioned in full capacity and configuration in the second half of 2020, Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR told Trend.

SOCAR said that the following works have already been completed as part of the project:

  • Hydrogen Enrichment Facility, built by Germany’s Linde Group, has been put into operation. This facility constantly meets the demand of SOCAR Polymer for hydrogen fraction with 99.9 percent purity.
  • The module assembly of pyrolysis stoves designed and manufactured by UK Technip FMC, their delivery to the final destination and installation is already complete.
  • New storages have been installed for the produced ethylene and propylene.
  • A new bunker type Central Management Building has been built. Electrical work is currently underway in the building. At the same time, two local management and power substation buildings have been built in the area of new facilities and new storages.
  • Other new facilities (dry gas treatment plant and C3 fraction treatment plant) are under construction.

The total required investment in the project is around 500 million euros, said the company.

“Much of the project's financing comes from loans with state guarantee. At the peak of construction and installation works carried out as part of the project, the number of local people involved in the project stands at 1,800-2,000 primarily from the city of Sumgait and surrounding regions,” said SOCAR.

Azerikimya Production Union was transferred to SOCAR in 2010. The Syndicate has an ethylene-polyethylene plant (EP-300, Polymer-120, isopropyl alcohol production unit, production of steam and electric energy) and a repair and construction division.
