TEHRAN, Iran, Feb. 26
Trend:
The Budget Integration Commission of Iranian Parliament has decided to allocate extra gasoline quota for the Nowruz holiday (starts on March 21), Trend reports via ILNA.
“According to the decision of the commission, the 60 liters of gasoline will be added to the quota of every car for the time of Nowruz holidays,” Iranian Member of Budget Integration Commission of the Parliament Ali Asghar Yousefnejad said.
The statement comes amid last week comments from Iran's Oil Minister, who disagreed to allocate extra gasoline quota for the Nowruz holidays.
He said that the financial burden of allocating Nowruz petrol quotas on subsidized resources will result in $714 million and that is why some in the government are against the plan.
After a big rise in the state-controlled price of fuel on November 15th, anger erupted all across Iran.
The fuel quotas (60 liters per car per month) were first introduced in 1981 - one year after the start of the 1980-88 Iraq-Iran war and again in 2007 when the consumption fell by 25 million liters in six months.
