Turkmenistan is planning to speed up the implementation of a high-voltage power transmission line alongside the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) pipeline, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenportal Inforation Portal.

President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov spoke on the issue during a working government meeting held via videoconference.

During the meeting, special attention was paid to the construction of the TAP high-voltage power transmission line along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline.

The president stressed that the project will contribute to the formation of appropriate infrastructure, and what is more important, will make a special contribution to the sustainable development and stabilization of situation in Afghanistan.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that the energy sector is one of the main branches of country's national economy, and plays an important role in the implementation of state programs. The Turkmen Energy Ministry has signed an agreement with Turkey’s Calik Holding A.S. on the implementation of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) project for the construction of a power transmission line in Janurary 2020.

In addition to the energy supply of all infrastructure facilities of this power line, the future power transmission line will allow exporting electricity to Pakistan and other countries of South Asia in transit through Afghanistan.

The construction of the TAP will give a powerful impetus to the economic development of the region, it will be possible to increase the level of employment of the population, to create the appropriate electricity, transport, communication and social infrastructure, the report said.

Turkmenistan is already supplying electricity to neighboring Afghanistan. The power stations and high-voltage power lines were built in Turkmenistan to increase supply volumes.
