Turkmenistan’s Watan State Power Plant plans to increase the electricity production by 1.4 times in 2025, compared to 2019, Trend reports with reference to Business Turkmenistan information portal.

Currently, the power plant generates 1-1.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually.

The country plans to increase energy exports by 8.7 percent in the coming years.

A construction of 400-megawatt Zerger Gas-Fired Power Plant is currently underway in Turkmenistan’s Lebap region in order to supply Turkmen electricity to Afghanistan.

Total electricity production is expected to reach 34.2 billion kilowatt-hours in Turkmenistan in 2025.

As reported, the construction of new power plants, power transmission lines, modern transformer substations and switchgears will contribute to the increase in exports.

Turkmen Energy Ministry also previously reported that there are opportunities to supply Turkmen electricity in transit through Afghanistan to Tajikistan. By 2030, Turkmenistan plans to produce up to 35.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity.
