About 32 percent of the population in Iran will be provided with gas free of charge in order to reduce gas consumption in Iran, Iranian oil minister Bijan Zanganeh said, Trend reports citing National Iranian Oil Company’s website.
According to the minister, the government must spend 4 trillion rials (about $95.2 million) per year for supplying free gas.
He added that certain fines are also planned to be applied in Iran for exceeding the gas consumption limit.
Zanganeh noted that gas extraction is achieved under very difficult conditions. Therefore, its consumption should not be wasted.
“About 95 percent of the population in Iran is provided with gas,” he said.
According to the decision of the Iranian government, gas will be provided free of charge from next month (December 21, 2020) in accordance with the climate in the winter months, to the citizens that are using gas less than 200 cubic meters on 1st, 2nd and 3rd zones, less than 150 cubic meters in 4th zone, less than 100 cubic meters in 5th zone.
Also, the citizens who use less than 45 cubic meters of gas in all zones will be provided with gas free of charge from April 4 to November 6.
