Kyrgyzstan is considering the issue of importing electricity from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, the President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov said during an interview with chairman of the board of Kazinform, Kazakh international news agency, Askar Umarov, Trend reports citing the agency.

According to the information, an energy crisis has been brewing in Kyrgyzstan for a long time. The authorities of Kyrgyzstan are talking about a decrease in water in the Toktogul reservoir, which is formed by the dam of the Toktogul hydroelectric power station on the Naryn River.

The hydroelectric power station itself provides Kyrgyzstan with electricity by 40-50 percent.

The head of the National Energy Holding Bakyt Sydykov said that the load on the Bishkek thermal power plant was increased in order to compensate for the lack of electricity due to the low volume of water in the reservoir.

It is reported that the volume of water in the reservoir amounts now to 9.9 billion cubic meters (with a maximum of 19.5 billion). The level of 17 billion is considered normal, and anything lower can lead to overloading of electricity substations and blackouts.

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov said that if the situation at the Toktogul reservoir continues, it will all lead to disaster.

In this regard, the issue of importing electricity from neighboring countries is being considered.
