Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR has increased oil exports via the Baku-Novorossiysk pipeline by 86.2 percent in 2021 year-on-year, Trend reports with reference to Azerbaijan’s energy ministry.

The company’s oil exports via this route stood at 1.1 million tons in 2021, versus 0.6 million tons in 2020.

A total of 28.1 million tons of oil was exported in 2021, which is 1 percent less than 28.4 million tons in 2020.

Baku-Supsa, or Western Route Export Pipeline transports Caspian oil from Sagachal terminal near Baku to Georgian Supsa port in the Black Sea. The pipeline was put into operation on April 17, 1999.

Baku-Novorossiysk transports Caspian oil to Russia’s Black Sea port of Novorossiysk. The total length of the oil pipeline is 1,330 kilometers with 231 kilometers running through Azerbaijan. SOCAR is the operator of Azerbaijani part of the pipeline.

The BTC pipeline currently carries mainly ACG crude oil and Shah Deniz condensate from Azerbaijan. In addition, other volumes of crude oil and condensate continue to be transported via BTC, including volumes from Turkmenistan, Russia and Kazakhstan.
