BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 25. More than 500 megawatt-hours will be added to Iran’s Khuzestan Province’s electricity network in order to provide a part of the province electricity’s demand in the summer, Executive Director of Iran's Khuzestan Regional Electric Company Mahmoud Dashtbozorg said, Trend reports citing Iranian Energy Ministry.

According to Dashtbozorg, the mentioned volume of electricity will be purchased from the Iranian Persian Gulf Fajr Energy Company.

The director also added that the electricity will be transmitted to the province’s network through a 400-kilovolt substation.

“Due to the drought, the largest decrease in electricity generation in the province will be observed in the generation of hydroelectric power plants. For this reason, there is a need to purchase electricity from private sector power plants,” he said.

In total, 38,200 gigawatt-hours of electricity were generated in Iran’s Khuzestan Province over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022). Of this, 24.1 percent was generated by HPPs, 72.7 percent - by TPPs, 1.6 percent - by distributed generation power plants, while the rest - by renewable energy power plants.

The electric capacity of hydroelectric power plants in Iran's Khuzestan Province is more than 8,200 megawatt-hours, while the capacity of thermal power plants is more than 5,000 megawatt-hours.
