BAKU, Azerbaijan, Sept.6. The technical details related to hydrogen transportation via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) will depend on the pipe materials testing and on vendors’ feedback about what the existing equipment can tolerate, TAP AG consortium told Trend.

“The pipe materials testing programme is extensive and we will need to analyse the tests’ results. It will last approximately 2 years. So, it is still too early to provide a detailed timeline about the results announcement,” said TAP AG.

The consortium said it is working closely with shareholders, key vendors, and the industry, as the investment in the facilities upgrade and percentage to be transported will likely be developed incrementally over time to match the hydrogen market demands and in line with the related market regulations.

As the European section of the Southern Gas Corridor, TAP has the capacity to transport approximately 10 billion cubic meters of gas per annum (bcm/a) to several markets in Europe. The pipeline is also designed with the potential to expand its throughput capacity up to 20 bcm/a.

TAP is strategically and economically important to Europe and essential in providing reliable access to a new source of natural gas. TAP plays a significant role in boosting Europe’s energy security, supply diversification, as well as decarbonisation objectives.

TAP’s shareholding is comprised of bp (20 percent), SOCAR (20 percent), Snam (20 percent), Fluxys (19 percent), Enagás (16 percent) and Axpo (5 percent).
