BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 15. Kazakhstan’s "QazaqGaz" and Turkmenistan’s "Turkmengas" signed a contract for the import of Turkmen gas, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said on October 15, during joint press statement with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov in Astana, Trend reports referring to the official statement of the Kazakh Presidential Palace.
"I express my gratitude to the president of Turkmenistan for his personal support in promoting this project. We are interested in concluding a long-term agreement and are ready to increase the volume of gas imports to 1.5 billion cubic meters per year," Tokayev noted.
He announced the intention of Kazakhstan to participate in the implementation of major energy initiatives of Turkmenistan, as well as to exchange experience and develop mutually beneficial projects in the field of gas processing and gas chemistry.
Besides, the prospects for the export of Kazakh wheat to the Turkmen market and the construction of a grain terminal on the Turkmen-Afghan border were touched upon.
