BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 28. In September 2023, the STAR oil refinery operated by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Türkiye manufactured 15,463 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), in contrast to the 19,953 tons produced during the same month in 2022, Trend reports.
As per data from the Turkish Energy Markets Regulatory Authority (EPDK), the production of LPG at the refinery registered a year-on-year decline of 22.5 percent.
The STAR refinery, with an investment cost of $6.3 billion, commenced operations in October 2018, with approximately $3.3 billion of the project's expenses being covered through loans. The facility has an annual refining capacity of around 10 million tons and is capable of processing 214,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
SOCAR Türkiye plans to temporarily halt operations at the STAR refinery for maintenance in 2024, marking the first shutdown since its commissioning. Planned repairs will be conducted initially, with the aim of subsequently extending the intervals between refinery shutdowns for maintenance to five years, resulting in potential savings of up to $40 million.
