Azerbaijan estimates technical opportunities for Iranian gas delivery to Georgia

Azerbaijan conducts researches into technical opportunities for Iranian gas delivery to Georgia, the Ministry of Industry and Energy told Trend. At present Azerbaijan can deliver to Georgia some 2 million cu m of gas a day. To increase the deliveries it is necessary to raise pressure, while it might lead to incidents due to poor infrastructure for gas delivery, the Ministry stressed.

Georgia intends to receive from Iran gas by transit via the territory of Azerbaijan. Iran can deliver gas to Astara, where necessary infrastructure. However, in this respect it is necessary to carry out reverse of the Azerbaijan-Iran gas pipeline. Azerbaijan will use it to transport gas to Iran, which in its turn will supply similar gas volumes to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic (NAR), which is currently in blockade.

The Ministry said that gas delivered to Azerbaijan for NAR can be connected to the Iranian route to run to Georgia, which will enable to carry out mutual settlements.
