Kazakhstan, Astana / Trend corr V. Sharifov / Direct foreign investments to Kazakhstan's economy made up some $40bln in 1991, the President of BG Kazakhstan, Luis Affleck, said at the second Eurasian energy forum organized by KazEnergy in Astagan.

BG is taking part in the development of the Karachaganak field.

"I think in order to reduce negative impacts [for Kazakhstan] and bring equilibrium to the variations [in oil prices], and to provide for a stable economic rise, the economy should be based on a maximum wide platform," he said.

According to him, the more stable Kazakhstan is, the higher is the level of foreign investments.

"That is especially urgent for developing oil and gas reserves, which require mass advance investments and many years to reap the benefits. In such circumstances, inviolability of contracts is especially important for investors," he said.

"Karachaganak is a technically complicated field. We operate a unique system of re-pumping sour gas under high pressure of 550 atmospheres. That is the world's first and single achievement in its way. Besides the scale of the field, big seasonal temperature variations also further complicate technical difficulties," he said.
