Kazakh ICT investments up by 23%

In the first 10 months of this year, capital investments in the information and communication industry of Kazakhstan amounted to 59.2 billion tenge, which is 22.5 percent more than in the same period last year, Trend reports with reference to Kazakh media.

The largest investments were in Almaty: 26.3 billion tenge, an increase of 17.1 percent year-on-year. Astana ranked second with 9.3 billion tenge, an increase of 26.4 percent, and the Atyrau region, where investment increased fivefold to 6.1 billion tenge, was third.

The main resources for investment in the information and communication sector were businesses' own funds: 58 billion tenge in January–October 2018. The local budgets invested 528.6 million tenge, and the republican budget funded 451.1 million tenge of investments.

It is worth noting that the development of the information and communication sector is accelerated by the Digital Kazakhstan state program.

In 2022, Kazakhstan plans to reach the 30th place on the Information and Communication Technology Development Index. According to Measuring the Information Society Report 2017, so far Kazakhstan ranks 52nd.
