The volume of remittances received in Georgia in May 2019 amounted to $145.8 million (400.4 million lari), which is 11.8 percent ($15.4 million) more than in May 2018, reports Trend citing data from the National Bank of Georgia.
Some 93.9 percent of remittances from abroad to Georgia accounted for those 18 largest partner countries, of which the amount of remittances in May exceeded $1 million. The same 18 countries in May last year accounted for 93.9 percent of all remittances.
The biggest amount of transfers was made again from Russia - $34.80 million, second place was taken by Italy - $20.31 million, in third place was Greece - $16.64 million, and the fourth USA - $16.96 million and the fifth place is occupied by Israel - $13.74 million.
In May 2019, $20.5 million (56.2 million lari) were sent abroad from Georgia, which is 3.9 percent more than in May 2018 ($ 19.7 million).
