By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

A special group would be established in Georgia, to restore and protect wheat species in the country, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.

This group will include representatives of state and non-governmental organizations, experts in this field and farmers. The group will also discuss the implementation of certain commitments on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

“The task force will exchange information and make recommendations on a regular basis. It is also important to raise awareness on this issue. We are planning an active campaign on Georgian endemic varieties at UNESCO,” said Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Khatia Tsilosani.

A national catalog has been created that includes a list of crop varieties permitted for distribution in Georgia and / or for agricultural use.
