Kazakhstan sees decrease in overall lending volumes

The value of lending allocated by Kazakhstan’s second-tier banks to the country’s economy amounted to 14.5 trillion tenge ($34.9 billion) as of the end of Jan. 2021, which is 0.2 percent less than in Dec. 2020, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s National Bank.

The value of lending to legal persons decreased by 1.4 percent amounting to 6.9 trillion tenge ($16.7 billion), whereas lending value to physical persons was 7.6 trillion tenge ($18.2 billion) which is 1 percent more than in Dec. 2020.

According to the bank, the value of tenge-denominated loan value increased by 0.3 percent and amounted to 12.7 trillion tenge ($30.5 billion), whereas the value of foreign currency-denominated loans decreased by 3.3 percent to 1.8 trillion tenge ($4.3 billion).

The value of long-term loans amounted to 12.5 trillion tenge in Jan. 2021 ($29.9 billion) which is 0.1 percent more than in Dec. 2020, whereas the value of short-term loans decreased by 2 percent to 2.08 trillion tenge ($5 billion).

Lending to ventures of small entrepreneurship amounted to 2.5 trillion tenge in Jan. 2021 ($6.08 billion), which is 0.9 percent more than in Dec. 2020 and is 17.4 percent of the total value of loans allocated as of Jan. 2021.

The largest share of loans accounts for industry (13.5 percent), trade (11.6 percent), construction (4.3 percent), and transport (3.1 percent).

The weighted average remuneration rate on tenge denominated loans to non-bank legal entities was 11.5 percent in Jan. 2021 compared to 12.1 percent in Jan. 2020, whereas to physical entities it was 18.5 percent compared to 19 percent in Jan. 2020.
