Turnover on payment cards grows in Azerbaijan

The turnover on payment cards through ATMs and POS terminals in Azerbaijan grew over 1H2021, Trend reports referring to the statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to the report, this indicator made up 2.9 billion manat ($1.7 billion, a rise of 25.7 percent on annual basis)

The total number of transactions with payment cards over the reporting period amounted to 27.9 million, a growth of 50.4 percent for the year, including 3.03 million transactions worth 139 million manat ($81.7 million) outside the country.

Meanwhile, 24.09 million transactions via debit cards worth 2.72 billion manat ($1.6 billion) were conducted both within the country and abroad, of which 8.22 million transactions worth over 1.86 billion manat ($1.09 billion) were carried out through ATMs inside the country, and through POS terminals – over 6.55 million transactions worth 319 million manat ($187 million), the report said.

At the same time, bank customers carried out more than 3.82 million transactions on credit cards (both within the country and abroad) with a total value of 186 million manat ($109.4 million). Some 310,000 transactions worth 46 million manat ($27 million) were carried out using ATMs inside the country, and 2.12 million transactions worth 88 million manat ($51.7 million) - using POS terminals inside the country.

As of early July 2021, the number of payment cards has increased by 16 percent compared to the same period in 2020, exceeding 10 million, added the report.
