Baku Stock Exchange unveils 8M2021 data on transactions in gov't securities

As many as 1,636 transactions on government securities worth 5.8 billion manat ($3.4 billion) were carried out at the Baku Stock Exchange (BSE) from January through August 2021, Trend reports citing the BSE report.

According to the report, 1,108 transactions totaling over 5.06 billion manat or $2.97 billion (86.2 percent of the total volume of transactions in government securities) were made in the primary market during the specified period. Of these, about 75 percent (650 transactions) fell on short-term notes of the Central Bank (CBA) totaling over 3.79 billion manat ($2.23 billion).

The bonds of the Ministry of Finance accounted for 458 transactions, with a value of 1.27 billion manat ($747 million).

“At the same time, 528 transactions on government securities worth over 811.5 million manat ($477.3 million) were made at the secondary market. Their share in the total number of transactions on government securities amounted to 13.8 percent,” the report says.

“The volume of repo transactions on government bonds approached 4.3 billion manat or $2.52 billion (2,688 transactions). The total volume of repo transactions carried out in the capital market in the first 8 months of this year reached 4.54 billion manat ($2.67 billion),” follows from the BSE report.

The capitalization of the BSE as of the last trading day in August 2021 amounted to 4.31 billion manat ($2.53 billion), having increased by 11 percent since the beginning of the year.
