Iran starts registering low-income tenants for mortgage loans

TEHRAN, Iran, June 2. Iran has started registering low-income tenants for mortgage loans, said Minister of Road and Urban Development Rostam Ghasemi, Trend reports citing IRNA.

He said the government estimated to have from 40 trillion rials (about $9 billion) to 70 trillion rials (about $16 billion) worth of mortgage loans available.

He pointed out that 560,000 vacant housing units have been referred to Iran National Tax Administration (INTA) to be taxed under the new vacancy tax law, while 400,000 new vacant residential homes recently reported to the tax authority.

According to the official, construction of 1.2 million affordable housing units is underway, and the figure is expected to reach 2 million by late June.
