Payment card activity in Azerbaijan via ATMs, POS-terminals growing

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 1. Azerbaijan's payment card activity through ATMs and POS-terminals totaled 5.148 billion manat, or $3.02 billion (against 3.29 billion manat, $1.9 billion, in the same period of 2021) as of October 1, 2022, Trend reports citing the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

According to the CBA, this figure increased by 1.856 billion manat, or ($1.09 billion), or 56.38 percent year over year.

The total number of payment card transactions amounted to 58.27 million (growth of 83.73 percent), out of which 4.379 million transactions worth 232 million manat ($136.27 million) were carried out abroad.

As many as 52.389 million debit card transactions worth 4.8 billion manat ($2.8 billion) have been conducted both within the country and abroad. Out of the total number, 10.25 million transactions worth 2.45 billion manat ($1.4 billion) were implemented through ATMs within the country, whereas 15.537 million worth 524 million manat ($307.79 million) – through POS-terminals.

Bank customers executed 5.884 million transactions for a total of 327 million manat ($192.07 million) via credit cards (both within the country and abroad).

Meantime, 367,000 transactions worth 73 million manat ($42.8 million) were carried out through ATMs, while 3.208 million transactions worth 129 million manat ($75.77 million) – through POS-terminals.

In the first nine months of 2022, the number of payment cards in Azerbaijan increased by 2.343 million or 22.47 percent and reached 12.772 million (against 10.429 million a year earlier).
