Azerbaijani Economic Development Ministry will start issuing licenses and certificates in electronic form, Deputy Minister Sevinc Hasanova said on Friday.
She said work in this direction is underway in accordance with the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev's decree on measures for the provision of e-services by government agencies.
"The ministry has already begun work on launching electronic services, which is expected in the near future. The ministry adopted a long-term strategy of development and introduction of ICT, and all the services of our ministry will be gradually converted into electronic form," Hasanova said.
Introducing ICT, according to Hasanova, will eliminate redtape, increase transparency, as well as save time when rendering services.
"Introducing electronic document circulation will also greatly reduce the need for paper. The transition to electronic document circulation system will enable us to save up about three tons of paper per year. In the end, it will provide ecological security of the country, and if to consider that the electronic system will be applied in all departments, the so substantial savings will have a positive impact both in material terms and in terms of ecology," Hasanova said.
Hasanova said Azerbaijan has made significant progress in the development of the ICT sector, where great investments are made.
Azerbaijan ranks leading position in ICT development among the CIS countries in the report of the World Economic Forum. Azerbaijan prepares for launching the first telecommunications satellite, which in turn will further promote the development of this sector, both in Azerbaijan and the whole region.
