Introduction of online ticket sale by Azerbaijan Railway is an important step on the threshold of Eurovision - 2012 song contest in Azerbaijan, Iltimas Mammadov, Deputy Minister of Communications and Information Technology, said at the presentation of the system.
"The widespread use of online ticket sales for airplanes and trains, as well as the use of the card system in public transport, on-line sale of tickets for movies and theaters is an important requirement within preparations for this contest in Baku," Mammadov said.
Developing of 3G network in Azerbaijan will expand access to online services. "It will be possible now to implement all these operations through the mobile phone," deputy minister noted.
Azerbaijani Railways launched online ticket sales for domestic and foreign passenger trips on Monday.
Online purchase of tickets is available through the website - www.railway.gov.az in the section "Online tickets". Payment can be done by plastic cards.
Online tickets booking will be possible maximum 10 days before and at least two hours before departure of trains. An hour before the dispatch of trains, passenger should come at a checkout with a confirming order or identity document to obtain the tickets.
