By Huseyn Veliyev – Trend:

Employees of companies and enterprises of Azerbaijan are the weakest link in the system of protection of information systems, the representative of Kaspersky Lab company in Azerbaijan Musfiq Mammadov told Trend.

It is just the employees of companies that are more exposed to internal threats to information security, Mammadov said.

"They are the target of intruders and they are often hit by targeted attacks. And the employees of financial organizations are mostly subjected to the attacks. Many of them are unaware of the importance of compliance with basic protection rules. It is not necessary to have a high knowledge of IT-security, basic knowledge is sufficient. For example, it is necessary to be able to distinguish between legitimate and phishing emails, not to follow unknown links specified in the text of the letter, to be able to create complex passwords, etc. These are the simplest security rules, which, unfortunately, are neglected by many Azerbaijani companies," Mammadov said.

Therefore, the corporate sector should undertake a broad public education effort, which is of particular importance, given the fact that attacks on information systems become more complex and sophisticated, the representative of "Kaspersky Lab" company in Azerbaijan said.

As for the consumer segment, the situation has improved a lot in this area in terms of protection of personal home systems, Mammadov said.

"The retail business is developing well in our country. People began to understand more about the scale of malicious programs and the threat they pose. For example, there are a lot of malicious programs for hidden mining now, which use the resources of personal computers. It is gratifying that people have become more educated and have become more focused on licensed software to protect their computers," Mammadov said.

Speaking about expanding cooperation between the public and private sectors, Mammadov mentioned the activity of the banking sector, which began to pay serious attention to the protection of information systems.

"Certain work has also been carried out in the education sector and in the telecommunications industry of the country. The issues of cooperation with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) are at the stage of negotiations today," Mammadov said.
