The National Aviation Academy of Azerbaijan submitted an application for participation in the NASA international competition CanSat (Student Satellite), Akbar Aliyev, design engineer and lecturer of the Academy, told Trend.

Aliyev noted that the competition will be held in June 2019 in the United States, at Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas.

"We will receive the final answer on November 30, after which it will be possible to begin preparing for the competition," Aliyev said.

For the first time, Azerbaijan’s NaaSAT satellite team took part in this competition in 2016, taking 31st place among 40 teams. In 2017, the team took the 13th place.

Some changes have been made to the technical criteria for selection of winners of the competition, and the tasks have become somewhat more complicated. Thus, for example, the speed of a micro-satellite during a smooth descent with a parachute must be controlled. At the same time, the mass of the micro-satellite should remain within 500 grams.

In addition, according to the new competition criteria, the satellite must receive commands at certain stages and send back useful information.
