Azerbaijan to Participate in WMU`s World Strategic Conference

Azerbaijan is expected to participate in the World Strategic Conference on Development of the Postal Sector in the Future within the Universal Postal Union (UPU). An Azerbaijani delegation headed by Telecommunication Minister Ali Abbasov is expected to take part in this event to be held in Dubai on November 14-16, a source in the Telecommunication and Information Technologies Ministry told Trend today.

The UPU Strategy Conference is an exceptional event, taking place at the midpoint between two UPU Congresses. Organized by the Universal Postal Union, a United Nations specialized agency, the Conference will offer participants from the entire postal sector a unique opportunity to meet and network in a neutral setting. The discussions on the key issues must bring to concrete actions in the strategic process.

The forthcoming conference will be held under the aegis of Vice-President and Prime-Minister of UAE and Governor of Dubai Sheikh Muhammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

Sultan Saeed Al-Mansouri, UAE Telecommunication Minister and Chairman of the United Postal Service of the Emirates, Abdulla I. Al Daboos, Director General of the United Emirates Post, and Chairman of the forthcoming Strategy Conference, Sergei Ordzhonikidze, Director General of UN`s Office in Geneva, Edward Dayan, Director General of UPU International Bureau, and Mutahi Kagwe

, Kenya`s Information and Communications Minister will open the conference with their welcome addresses. The Keynote of the forthcoming session will be Pascal Lamy, Speaker Director Deneral of World Trade Organization.

The forthcoming conference will consist of the following sessions Postal Sector and Information Society, Understanding Industrial Challenges, Postal Network Development, Participants of New Market, Ensuring Stable development of Postal Sector, Management, regional Approaches to Achieve Global Ends, UPU`s Role in Future.

Reports prepared by the leading figures of the postal sector, financial organizations of a number of countries such as Egypt, Korea, Germany, Brazil, USA, Great Britain, France, Japan, Uruguay, Trinidad and Tobago, etc. are expected to be heard during the above-mentioned sessions. Over 800 representatives from more than 130 member-states of UPU are expected to participate in the forthcoming event.
