Measures taken by Kazakhstan to increase the number of tourists visiting the country are yielding great results.

Over 8 months of this year, airports of Kazakhstan served 9.2 million people, which is 9.1 percent more than in the same period of 2017 (8.4 million people), Civil Aviation Committee of the Investments and Development Ministry told Trend.

Kazakhstan is also working towards increasing the number of transit flights. As part of the implementation of the Kazakh president's address titled "Third modernization of Kazakhstan: global competitiveness", 620,000 transit air passengers were served in 2017, while in 2016 their number was only 478,000.

"In January-September this year, the number of transit passengers amounted to 698,677 people, which is 52.4 percent more compared to the same period last year (458,840 people)," the committee noted.

The message also reads that tourists from neighboring countries – mainly citizens of Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey, Middle East states and China – accounted for the main flow of tourists visiting Kazakhstan this year.

Presently, air communication between Kazakhstan and other countries is carried out in 96 international directions.

Seven Kazakh airlines operate in the domestic air transportation market: Air Astana, SCAT, Bek Air, Qazaq Air, Zhezkazgan Air, Zhetysu and Southern Sky. Moreover, there are 25 foreign and 2 Kazakh airlines operating in the international air transportation market of Kazakhstan.
