Spanish Ibertest company will work on the modernization of state-owned Turkmen Railways, Export Manager, SAE Ibertest O.Barroso told Trend.
Ibertest has proposed to Turkmenistan four possible scopes in order to improve operations of the Turkmen Railways, said Barroso.
To discuss the scopes, representatives of the two companies were to hold a meeting in Ashgabat in March 2020, but due to the suspension of flights that was caused by COVID-19, the parties had to postpone the talks.
The Ibertest export manager noted that the parties plan to schedule new meeting.
However, the exact date is not known yet, he said adding that therefore, the company hasn’t started implementing the project in Turkmenistan.
In August 2019, Turkmen Railways signed a cooperation agreement with Ibertest company in order to improve the quality of work carried out in the divisions of Turkmenistan Railways and ensure the safety of passengers. Under the agreement, the Turkmen side also receives an opportunity to reconstruct existing facilities.
Referring to the company’s presence in the country, Barroso noted that Ibertest is interested in expanding cooperation with Turkmenistan.
In addition to passenger services, Turkmen Railways carries out various types of cargo transportation and has representative offices throughout Turkmenistan. The company offers the lowest railway tariffs for freight transportation across the territory of Turkmenistan, the CIS, the Baltic states, Iran, Afghanistan, China and other countries of Eurasia region.
Since 1970, Ibertest is engaged in design and manufacture of machines and equipment for material testing, special technical developments (custom equipment); calibration service in force and deformation, integral design of laboratories, with turnkey execution; repair and upgrades of machines and test equipment; and specialized technical advice.
