Turkish export cargo to China to pass through Port of Baku

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 4

First freight train with export goods from Turkey departed from Istanbul for China on Dec. 4, reads the message of the Turkish State Railways Administration (TCDD), Trend reports.

The Baku International Sea Trade Port (Port Of Baku) told Trend that the Turkish cargo will transit through Port Of Baku to Kazakhstan.

The train will proceed to China via the Marmaray tunnel, and then by the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line and the East-West Middle Transport Corridor - through Ankara, Sivas and Kars, after which it will reach Azerbaijan through Georgia.

Further, through the Caspian Sea, the goods will be delivered to Kazakhstan and then to the city of Xi'an in China, TCDD said.

The total length of the route of the train loaded with 42 containers with refrigerators made in Turkey is 8,693 kilometers (two continents, two seas and five countries).

Estimated travel time is 12 days.

In November 2019, the first freight train was sent from China to Europe in transit through Turkey, which proceeded through the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway.
