Southern Center of Shipbuilding and Ship Repair JSC (a company of United Shipbuilding Corporation) of Russia’s Astrakhan Region has received an order for the construction of a series of bulk carriers for Turkmenistan, Trend reports with reference to the Business Turkmenistan information portal.
According to the agreement, two bulk carriers will be built for Turkmenistan.
In addition, further negotiations are underway on orders for the construction of special-purpose vessels, as well as auto-ferries.
According to the report, the possibility of building a series of vessels for Turkmenistan at the Astrakhan shipyards was discussed during the meeting of Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Russia Batyr Niyazliyev with Governor of the Astrakhan region Igor Babushkin in October 2020, the report said.
As reported, Turkmenistan is ready to take practical steps to establish a logistics center in the Astrakhan Region of the Russian Federation.
It is logical to place the center on the territory of the Special economic zone being created in the Astrakhan region.
In addition, the logistics center can become not only a wholesale and transshipment base for Turkmen goods but also a place for the production of its own products.
An agreement was reached to provide the Consulate of Turkmenistan in Astrakhan with the necessary information about the conditions and procedure for establishing the center in the region, as well as to organize a meeting with the general director of the management company of Lotus special economic zone.
Consul of Turkmenistan in Russia’s Astrakhan Guych Garayev and Governor of Russia’s Astrakhan region Igor Babushkin discussed the possibility of opening a logistics center for Turkmen goods on the territory of a new economic zone near Olya port on the Caspian Sea of Russia’s Astrakhan during their meeting on August 12, 2020.
Earlier, representatives of Turkmenistan and the Astrakhan region held a meeting to discuss prospects for expanding cooperation in the field of trade and expressed interest in the supply of products manufactured in Turkmenistan to Astrakhan.
