Uzbekistan’s car imports drop considerably

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 23

Uzbekistan sharply dropped car imports in January 2021 by almost 80 percent, Trend reports referring to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

According to the committee, foreign cars worth $5.8 million were delivered to Uzbekistan in the first month of 2021, which is almost 80 percent less compared to January 2020.

It is reported that in the summer of 2020 the authorities of Uzbekistan decided to improve competition in the domestic market and canceled the excise tax on car imports, but over the past six months, this has never led to a sharp increase in imports compared to previous years.

At the same time, the number of electric cars imported by Uzbekistan from abroad in 2020 amounted to 131 cars. According to the State Statistics Committee, this figure is 92 units more compared to the same period last year.

The State Statistics Committee reports that this year 92 electric vehicles were imported from China, 13 from South Korea, seven electric cars each were imported from Georgia and the US, five cars from Germany.

According to the information, Uzbekistan in 2020 spent $2.9 million on the import of electric vehicles.
