BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 25. Cargo transit through Iran increased by 7.4 percent, during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through January 20, 2023), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Director General of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA), Mohammad Rezvanifar said, Trend reports citing the administration.

Rezvanifar noted that more than 11 million tons of cargo were transited through Iran in 10 months.

The director general added that Iran is taking a number of steps in the direction of simplifying the rules for cargo transit through the country and supporting cargo transit.

Generally, Iran's foreign trade turnover amounted to over 134 million tons worth $93.8 billion in 10 months.

Reportedly, Iran attaches great importance to the International North-South and East-West corridors. It intends to further increase cargo transit via the country by improving railway lines within the mentioned corridors.
